Todd Graves 1941 Chevy Coupe
The Graves' 1941 Chevy Coupe has been a staple in our family for nearly 50 years. My father purchased this car shortly after graduating high school and we jokingly consider it his "1st born" son. My brother and I were born in the late 1970's and just about every memory of our family vacations revolve around car shows throughout the country. One of the attached pictures was taken at Bill's Fabulous 50's drive-in (Indianapolis, IN - Circa 1984) where you can see my brother and I on the far left, my mother standing by the menu, and my father in the hat getting out of the drivers-side.
Around 2002, due to a variety of reasons (health issues, financial issues, etc.) the '41 ended up parked in a garage and was not drove for over 10 years. During this time, I married my wife and we started our family. As my children started to grow up, I started to reflect on all the fun times I had with my parents in this car and the countless hours we spent driving from show to show. I wanted to share these experiences with my children too. Around 2013, my father and I had a conversation and made the decision that this car is too important to our family to let it waste away in a garage. We slowly started the process to get it back on the road and it truly was a team effort as we now had a 3rd generation turning wrenches. In 2014, for the first time in 12 years, the '41 was fired up and drove down the street. in 2015, my father and I attended the NSRA South Nationals (Knoxville, TN). This was the first car show that we went to together since the late 1990's (Knoxville pic attached - father/son standing in front of car). Once we were confident that the '41 was road-worthy, we started signing up both local shows and out-of-state shows. My children now have the joy of experiencing this fantastic car just like my brother and I did. They often ask when/where the next car show is and absolutely love the Frog Follies Car Show (Evansville, IN). In 2017, I officially "purchased" this car from my father and in the winter of 2017/2018, we had it painted and it's now ready for many, many more years of creating memories.
This car will be a part of my life from the day I was born until the day I pass it on to my son. I don't know many people that have the ability to experience that opportunity.
