These seals can be used in the older engines by using a spacer, I used a .045 Nylon wire tie a bit difficult to roll in with the upper seal but does work.There is ~ 3/16 of seal that needs to be cut off wire is high carbon steel one needs to use Dremel cut off wheel and add a bit of RTV at joints. I found this info on Chevy Talk, Gene Schneider made the entry.
